Let’s start off by thanking everyone who has chosen their new Professional Sectors and Forums – whether online or via the forms that came with your latest Focus.

Just in case you’ve not read last week’s CAB or Focus I’ve two things to say, a) crack on and make your selection; you’ll be fascinated by the work and output of the Forums and b) I’m wounded. I thought this month’s Focus was a rather good one, even though I say so myself. Rip open that polythene envelope right now – but don’t tear the address sheet as it has a form on you’ll need to select your new Forums.

If your dog has already chewed through the address sheet, fear not, there’s a fancy colour form on page 12 of Focus. I don’t have a dog, so I’m still wondering what the heck is chewing my envelope.

It’s really interesting to see how the different Forums we have work. They are often a reflection of their Chairman. Get someone enthusiastic and vaguely organised, even if the Forum sounds a little obscure, and they will produce loads of reports and events. Forums don’t have to be large to be successful. Seven or eight people coming together in a common cause can make a lot of noise!

But in the same way a Forum on a big important topic might flounder if its organisers flag. And in a volunteer lead organisation like ours that can be a problem if there’s not a constant flow of new blood into the committees............more
